Fundraising and Volunteers

We are here to help young people and together we can

To enable as many Welsh children and young adults between 12 and 25 years old as possible to experience sailing on Challenge Wales and to give them a different outlook in life, funds need to be raised. Challenge Wales offers those in this age group a discount on the cost of sailing, with the remaining cost being made up of money generated through fundraising, sponsorship or donations. Sometimes though, a reduction in costs isn't enough. In light of this Challenge Wales would like to set up a bursary fund enabling young people additional access to funds to help them take part however, Challenge Wales can only offer this once a significant amount of funds have been raised by the charity.

There are many reasons why potential crew members may apply for a bursary, a few are listed below:

  • Young people who have been affected by family trauma
  • Young people who are carers for an older relative
  • Young people who have been effected by the death of a sibling or parent
  • Young people who require help developing core skills for adulthood

Funds are also required to maintain the boat on a daily basis to ensure the boat is safe and fit for purpose.

Challenge Wales is run entirely by passionate and enthusiastic volunteers with no paid staff. This means that all donations and revenue generated, from sailing trips and corporate activity, goes straight back into the charity to directly help young people.
